I have really been paying out for tailoring costs lately.  So when Mr PEMS suggested I simply fold over a bit of the extra waist material on this skirt and sew it secure with a button, I gave it a try.  I have to say that I love the extra visual interest it adds (and the money it saved me)!  What do you guys think?......Too contrived or easy solution?

  1. From where I sit, your alteration looks good. I might try this with a thrifted skirt.

  2. The alteration looks fine! I love the loft dress and cardigan combo so much!

  3. I love the DIY alteration! It looks like it was meant to be that way. :) I'm really loving the striped cardigan over the striped dress!

  4. Love everything! I am smiling at the Striped Outfit, because I have the same two items, but the other color of each LOL! (grey and flesh sweater and taupe/black dress)

Are the shoes from Monday calf hair? They are lovely! I used to shop at the maxStudio outlet in Orlando a lot. I wish I still lived near one!

  6. Thank you Meka, I'm thinking I might try it again myself!

Thank you Janine!....I always feel that sweater dress is just a shade too tight and short so layering with another cardigan and scarf really helped me feel comfortable in it ;)

Thanks Megan....and the good thing is, I can always take out the button if I need room to grow! Lol

Oooh Bianca! I'd love to see those paired together! I'm not sure if they're calf or pony but I love that they have that soft texture to them.....actually bought mine at Off Broadway Shoes (very similar to a DSW).

Thanks so much Tara! I'd been thinking about getting a fur vest for a while now (it is a trend item) but they seem really versatile so I finally took the risk....(but left the tags on just in case that's the only time I wind up wearing it) Lol

  7. Mr. PEMS is so creative! This may not work for other types of skirts, but for this one I think it works nicely. It reminds me of a J.Crew skirt I saw on IamKhatu's blog. It had two front pleats and was too big, but she just folded both pleats over a bit more and secured with thread, similar to what you've done here. I can see you being a good sewer...have you ever thought about taking some classes and doing your own alterations at home?

  8. As always, you look fabulous. I think the skirt looks really cute, what a great idea! I like the Vera Wang tunic, is that an older one?

  9. All of your outfits are fabulous, as always :)Look number 2 with the fur vest is stunning! I want a fur vest so much. Number 4 with the purple tunic is my second favorite. I love the tunic, booties, necklace, everything! - Dreama

  10. I didn't see that post Jean, I'll have to look for it! Not a good sewer actually, but I've never taken classes either....that's a very good idea!

Thank you Chris! It is an older tunic....three years I'm thinking?....

  15. You look very nice in style nr. 2. The alteration of the waistband on the skirt looks like it is part of the design. Outfit nr. 1 is nice, simple and feminine.

  16. I'm a fan of the DIY alteration! This seems like something I might be able to try despite my lack of advanced sewing skills. I would love to learn to do more of my own alterations so I can stop hemorrhaging money at the tailor's!

Love your stripes + stripes outfit and the fur vest. So fun!

  17. Ah your alteration really worked for this skirt! I absolutely love how you paired the striped sweater dress with the striped cardi. I would never think to wear the two together but it looks so amazing on you!
