Okay, so this isn't what I wore to work today. I took these pictures last night trying to come up with a holiday outfit that will allow me to eat next week while still looking svelte (don't know if such an outfit really exists) Lol
I really like this mix. I just bought the wrap sweater from Banana Republic Outlet Store in xs on Sunday (did not see it in a petite) and the skirt is from White House Black Market in a 00 (also not petite and no longer available in 00 online). Both seem to be a good fit to me. I know the skirt might be slightly long for some of the petite bloggers, but I felt really comfortable with this length.
Coincidentally, Anh (pronounced on) at 9 to 5 chic wore a very similar outfit today and it's super cute! Check it out here.
Ohh I love the red, white, black combo - it's such a chic and sharp contrast! That sweater looks absolutely fabulous on you! Maybe tuck in the cami into the skirt? The loose tail makes it a little more casual than I think you're going for (but would look fine with something like jeans). I actually really like that skirt length - I love having my knees covered :)
ReplyDeletei think it looks perfect, i wouldnt change a thing! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the color combo, it's very classic. I think the black tights and black shoes makes the outfit kind of bottom heavy since the hem is lower than your knees. So maybe a more transparent black stocking to lighten it up?
ReplyDeleteUm...I love the color combination. The black and white and red look amazing on you and are perfect for the upcoming holidays...the only thing I would suggest are maybe nude tights with the shoes??
ReplyDeleteCallandra, you look great in this outfit! The skirt is the perfect shade of red--not too overwhelming. I would actually like to see the outfit without the black tights and maybe sparkly/gold heels! :)
ReplyDeletesuper pretty outfit and i love a good red skirt!! i think maybe a lighter colored pair of shoes or tights would've also lightened up the look a bit more and made it more festive. but it's still beautiful!

This is the perfect holiday red. So festive! I do like the neutral colors you chose to let the red stand out. Instead of black jewelry, maybe you can try metallics? Gold would be really pretty and would probably stand out more against the black/white cardigan. I always like wearing camis/tanks underneath my tops, so I think the white peeking out underneath your wrap is fine.
ReplyDeleteHi Callandra, nice wrap sweater you score at BR outlet. It fits you great, and gives your body a very nice definition. I would personally go a little shorter on the length of the skirt, but I think this length works very well on you. (you are taller and slender than me) I would lose the opaque tights, and go with a sheer legging instead. I was actually just thinking about it on the way out to work this morning: it seems like opaque tights only work with shorter skirt on me - not pencil, but mini style.
ReplyDeleteWow! Thanks for all of this great feedback. Sounds like it's unanimous for metallic heels and no tights. Now that I'm looking at the pictures again, I don't see how I missed it. You guys are totally right!
ReplyDeleteCee, I do have some gold jewelry that I could try instead of the black. I was wondering what would stand out best against the cardi, so that was very helpful.
Vicky, I hadn't noticed that about tights and skirts. I'll make a conscious effort to notice next time I'm pairing them together.
Ah, you look so beautiful and festive here! I agree with Jess the tights make it a little bottom heavy because the skirt is bright, solid, and longer in length already. But oh how I adore the deep red shade and flirty silhouette. I saw Anh's post too...you two are making me want my own red skirt so badly! There's a wool pencil one at Ann Taylor right now but i don't want to splurge on that plus tailoring.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty outfit! Even can save the effort on jwelery for the print sweater. I would like to just go with big earrings instead. Also I agree that transparent tights probably work better.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your outfit right here, I am in love with the top (my favorite print of the year, I think. The red skirt goes perfectly with it and while I would wear tights like you did here, it might look better if you wore nude ones since the rest of the outfit is so festive. :)
ReplyDeleteWow you always look so great! How do you do it? I love the red skirt but def with no tights unless you are super cold :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a coincidence! Great minds think alike =) Following now!
ReplyDeleteJean, Jess is right, it does look bottom heavy doesn't it? Not sure why I didn't notice that myself. I haven't seen the red wool skirt at AT that you're talking about, but I'll def check it out. So sad about the added cost of tailoring for you, but I saw that AT skirt that you just ordered and I'm crossing my fingers that it's small enough to fit you without any alterations!
ReplyDeleteMix & Match, What a great idea! I did feel like the necklace was lost in the print of the sweater. I will try the earrings for sure!
Elle, I love this print too! Have you seen it in any of the other stores?
Really Petite, So sweet! Sounds like everyone agrees, no tights for a more festive look.
Anh, Exactly what I was thinking when I saw your post! ;)
The top fits you so well! Try going cami-less! Love the necklace.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with those that mention switching out the tights. It is too much solid with solid on the bottom-half. Go for something more textured. If you keep them black, you can get away with mixing a patterned tight with a patterned top.
Also...some chunky braclets if you have something to match.
In the past, I have not put too much effort into creating a Thanksgiving outfit. I am excited to put thought into it this year!
Love the color combo!! Screams festive : ) What about ur bag? If you did a cream bag, nude shoes and hose I bet you would like the whole thing better.. if you try it post a pic so we can see the result!!
ReplyDeleteThis is very beautiful. You look like a WHBM model. :-)
ReplyDeleteMichelle, Thanks for the tips, I'll definitey try the bracelets. I don't have any textured tights, do you know where I can get some in petite's?
ReplyDeleteBella Style, Hadn't even thought about the bag!...Hmmmmm
Bianca, So sweet, thank you!
I love this holiday look on you! Hmm, this would've been a good entry for PFC #4? Lol, although I'm sure you have even better outfits up your sleeve for that :)
ReplyDeleteYou look so gorgeous!! I am in love with that sweater combined with the red skirt. So pretty and festive!
ReplyDeleteLiane, Completely forgot about the PFC Challenge! Oops...when is the deadline again? I better go check, thanks for reminding me!!
ReplyDeleteTiny in Texas, Thank you. I haven't tried the outfit again with the metallic sandals, but I'm hoping it will look even better!
Wow, I LOVE this outfit! Great pattern combined with red. Black and White and Red is so striking and classic!
ReplyDeleteSuper chic look! I love the black and white pattern and it looks so sophisticated with the red pencil skirt. I could probably add black onyx studs and a big black cocktail ring!
ReplyDeleteMan! I would love to do posts like these that are so lovely! The problem is that I work from home and I DON'T get dressed every day. hehe
ReplyDeleteJen, Thank you, I do like the color combination.
ReplyDeleteHer wise choice, Great idea. I don't have the studs, but I do have the cocktail ring. Thank you!
Savoir Affaire, I'm thinking not having to get out of my jammies everyday sounds pretty good!
The top looks fabulous on you, plus the red White house black market skirt fits great on you but you need to lose the black tights and wear black stiletto to pump up your Holiday style. Plus to match your red skirt, try to find a red handbag or red clutch. Try to find earrings that have red accents to it, that should also complement your red skirt.
