Happy Fourth of July Weekend Dear Friends!  So many things to talk about, the most obvious being, why is my armoire temporarily unavailable to pose against?  The next obvious, why did I wear the same blouse twice in the same post?

We could definitely talk about all of that, but instead I have a confession to make to all of you.  I recently became a false eyelash addict.  I had them put on before my cousin's wedding a couple of weekends back and have been enamoured of them ever since!

I found out that no eye makeup is necessary while wearing these little time savers and although I have tried several times to put them on myself, I haven't had the same results as when they were professionally applied.

I would really love to hear if any of you have any tips at all on how to get these things to stay on.  I've watched countless tutorials and let me tell you it's nowhere near as easy as it appears (for me anyway) Lol

  1. super chic! i particularly love how you made the lace dress into a top.

  2. You're stylish as always :) I wear fake eyelashes for blog photos too. I take them off right after I am done with the pictures. I don't ever wear them out so I am not sure how to get them to stay on :(

  3. Oh goodness I tried and tried to put falsies on myself and have had no luck yet! Looking forward to the tips you get on here ;)

Eee, I was able to score the lace dress from Kileen and I can't wait to receive it! I love how you styled it, between you and Cee I'm getting a ton of ideas! I'm really liking your wedges too are those recent purchases?

My fav outfits are #1, #3 and #4 but seriously I love how you look so amazing every day of the week!!!!

  4. Really? Fake eyelashes are a timesaver? I've always thought of them as really troublesome to put on!

You've got some really lovely outfits. My favorites are the first and sixth ones.

  5. Thank you Jane! First saw this dress worn as a top on Jean from Extra Petite ...check it out here...http://www.extrapetite.com/2011/05/pleats-pearls-and-dress-becomes-top.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+ExtraPetite+%28Extra+Petite%29

Lol Sydney...I never thought to wear them just for the pictures but what a great idea!

Elaine! I'm so excited that you got that dress too....can't wait to see how you style it as well. So now I think it's you, me, Sydney, Cee, Jean.......am I missing anyone else who also has this dress? Neither pair of wedges are recent purchases sad to say (not sure that they are actually in at all this year) but I still totally love them ;)

  6. Hi Aki! You're right of course! When I put them on myself it takes forever, but when I have them put on professionally they stay on for almost two weeks and I don't bother with eye makeup at all! (Love that ;)

  7. I like that you wore the the same top 2x this week. It's great to see remixes. I love the yellow dress, all your neutral shoes, and the Target bag.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Excellet point Anon, I enjoy remixes as well so we'll put this down as intentional. Lol The yellow F21 dress is totally adorable but wrinkles easily and because it isn't petite, has a bit more fabric than I like in the upper torso. If that isn't a problem for you, I highly reccomend. The quality felt good and at $24.95 the price is hard to beat for sure!

  9. Callandra, I absolutely adore your hairstyle! I remember the first time I came to your blog, the only thing I could think about was that this chick has such a cute haircut, and as much as you're fabulously stylish through clothing and accessories, your hairstyle makes you that much more cuter. You must have naturally thick, straight hair that falls in the right places, right? I'm a naturally curly girl so I have hair envy! ;) Anyway, I love outfits 1, 2, 3, and 4. and I especially love your hair pulled up in outfit 3. Seriously, your hair makes the outfit look different too! This is such a cute length on you! Have you ever had longer hair before? Also, is the LOFT Striped Scarf on sale at the store or regular price?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Lol Anon! You're looking at the result of a blowout with a round brush and then several dozen swipes with a straightener ;) hee hee My hair is not thick and when left to it's own devices, isn't straight or wavy, just frizzie ;) My hair has been longer in the past, but not at anytime while I was hosting a style blog. And YAY I was so happy about that Loft Striped Scarf, it is included in the 40% off sale going on at the Loft right now. The regular price is $34.95 so I paid $21.15 before tax. Thank you so much for leaving a comment!

  11. I love the look of false eyelashes as well, they are so fun! I'm loving that LOFT striped scarf on you, and love the use of the lace dress as a top!

  12. All cute looks! The cardi in the last outfit was made for your coloring!!! I too like the outfit w/ your hair pulled up... just a nice change... and adds to make the whole look unique from the others. I also like the background change in the last look : )... just for a change. Makes it a bit more interesting too. Also, I actually like the fact that you wore the same top in one week... kind of interesting to see 2 different looks in one blog w/ the same item. Good luck w/ the falsies.. perhaps you should practise on your sissy ; )

  13. I adore all of these outfits, especially the first. I am also terrible at doing makeup so if you figure out how to use falsies, please let me know (I know I would benefit from it!)

  14. callandra! haha i have that same blouse that you wore twice...i always knew there was a reason why i thought you had great style! so kidding! :P

i love false lashes too! they add instant drama to the eyes and according to my bf they make my eyes *sparkle*.

    happy 4th of july!

  15. Hi Callandra, I just recently started following fashion blogs and yours is by far one of my favorites. I love how you make everything look so achievable, effortless and elegant. It is a treat checking out your blog for ideas. Thank you for your effort. I hope you don't mind me asking and can totally understand if you prefer not answering this question: what line of work are you in? I'm just trying to picture an enviroment that allows you to be so creative and go from jeans and flats to heels and nice dresses. Meire

  16. The color pairings in your second and last outfits? Simply well done. But, I'm IN LOVE with your first outfit. I've really only been wearing that AT dress as a skirt, but why didn't I think to cover up the sleeveless arms with a cardigan?! Thanks for always being an inspiration, Callandra!

    ReplyDelete
  17. You are always so put together. I am always in awe of how everything you wear is just right, even down to the accessories (which is what I have a hard time with).

I love the dress from F21! And the second and third outfits just screams chic to me!

Sorry that I can't help you about the falsies...I hardly wear makeup to begin with. However, you've inspired me so much with your outfits that maybe that'll be next... ;)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Thanks so much Tara! Jean from Extra Petite gave me the idea for wearing that dress as a top. I saw her post and thought to myself "Brilliant, I've got to try it"!

Lol Bella Style! Perfect, I'll practice on Sissy (although she has nicknamed me "Tammy Faye" whenever she sees me wearing them) hee hee

Thank you Elle! That look is very romantic and so you I think ;) If I ever figure out the eyelash thing I'll def pass it on!

Lol Ping! I always knew you had great style too ;) So you wear false eyelashes too? Do you put them on yourself?...and if so, do they stay on for a week or so?

Thank you so much Anon! Regarding my line of work, my sister and I have our own wardrobe consulting business and I also work for a large insurance company. I enjoy both jobs but I'm sure you can tell which one really holds my passion ;)

Thank you so much Cee! I saw Jean wear that dress as a blouse recently and had to copy!

So sweet Kish, thank you! You've been a big inspiration to me for sure ;)

  19. I love your outfit # 2 & 3. That yellow dress is really cute. Sorry, couldn't help you with false eyelashes. How are they? Are they heavy? Do they hurt your eyes?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Thanks Lydia! No, the false eyelashes aren't heavy and they don't hurt but they did take some getting used to wearing. Not sure if it's just because I wear contacts a lot or what, but initially I felt like I had lost a small range of vision. I got used to them though and didn't feel that way after awhile.

  21. you said that the professional's work lasted 2 wks on you? what kind of lashes did he/she use? individual or strip? I can't imagine strips lasting that long.

Honestly, there's no trick to doing it except having a steady eye as well as hands. The only trick I offer is to lay them really close to your real lash, almost under the skin, directly on top of your current lashes. This will rip out some of your natural lashes during the take-off process but it's the only way to make it look real. make sure you cut the length proportionately to your real eye length. I like to apply the glue right away instead of waiting 30 sec. that way you can adjust it. then i blast it w/cool air from my blow dryer once it's in the right place.

#4 is so classic. totally my style.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hi Aubrey! When I had them done, they put the individual's on but when I did them myself I wound up using the short strip ones that go at the end of your eyes. I tried the individual ones myself with pathetic results to say the least:( I'm so grateful for your tips and I will definitely try using the blow dryer the next time . Thank you so, so much!!

  23. Callandra, so what exactly does your wardrobe consulting business entail? How do we become a client of yours?! I can just imagine you being the best consultant out there! ooo...guess what, I just bought the Internationals Travel Bag from Francesca's! I saw you pair it with a ton of your outfits and I thought to myself I had to have it myself. They ran out of it online, but I'm waiting to receive it in the mail because I placed a phone order. I hope this purchase is going to be worth it. Did you buy the purse because it's the latest trend or do you think it could be a closet staple? Please consult! :)

  24. callandra-- i usually wear the strips of false lashes (for going out). if you're talking about eye lash extensions, i have gotten them before. i didn't like them because they fell off really quick due to me wearing water proof eyeliner and they're pretty expensive. if you don't wear much eye makeup (esp the water proof kind), i'd totally give the lash extension a try!

    ReplyDelete
  25. and the lashes i wear stay on for a night...totally not a week!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh Callandra, you are the master of mix & match. I adore every one of them. If i have to make a choice, #1 and #5 are my most favorite at this moment. :) Looking forward to next week's recap

  27. Happy belated 4th of July. Great outfits! I love flower accessories - your outfit with the flower belt is perfect. :)

  28. I think I may be the only one that can't put fake eyelashes on- unless someone else does them for me! LOL My fave is the first outfit! Darling!

Please e-mail me for a complete list of services, we would love to work with you ;) Very excited you bought the international's travel bag. I think you are going to be surprised how many outfits it will go with as well as punch up with unexpected color! I would def call this bag a staple ;)

Lol Ping, thank you for letting me know. I don't wear eyemakeup at all when I have falsies on....maybe that's why they lasted, I didn't even think of that.

Thank you Mix and Match! I have to tell you that # five is my favorite hands down!

Hi ABC ;) I was so happy to see you blogging again!! Thanks so much for the kind comments!

Sounds like we're in the same boat Annie (although Aubrey left me some really great tips that I can't wait to try)!

  30. Hi Callandra! I have been stalking your blog for some time and LOVE looking at the cool outfits you put together. LOL I have been especially in love with that stormy seas necklace of yours.... which I cannot find anywhere! :) But, that Old Navy necklace is so close. Might you know the product number of it? My Old Navy does not have it, but if you know the number ON can tell me which stores might have it. I would be so thankful! Thanks!!!!

  32. Hello Samae! I had to buy my "stormy seas" Anthropologie necklace on ebay...so you might be able to find one there too. I'm so sorry about the ON necklace. A friend of mine just bought it for me in the store, so I don't have the style number for it :( Please don't despair, I also spottted one at Dillards a couple of weeks back so that might be another option as well. If I spot any more of them anywhere I'll be sure to mention it in future posts for sure ;)

Hi Yuri! Thank you so much for checking me out and leaving a comment ;)

  33. Thanks for responding!!! I really appreciate it. You have totally inspired me to really mix up my wardrobe. Thanks, lady!

  34. Callandra,

My #1 tip for false eyelashes (I'm a dancer so apply them ALL the time for performances and competitions) is to use a bobby pin to apply the lash glue. Instead of putting the glue straight on the lashes, which can leave it too globby and thick, dip one "prong" of the head of a bobby pin in the glue, and then paint a thin like on the falsies. Wait a few seconds for it to dry a bit, just so that it is "tacky" to the touch, and then try to get it as close to your lash line as possible! If you have an extra second, a little black liquid eyeliner goes a long way towards blending your lashes with the false ones.

Hope this helps, and I LOVE your blog!!

  36. My favorite is the lace dress. I rarely used to shop at the Loft (mostly because I thought it was for older women). But I've recently discovered that they have some awesome clothes! They're well made from quality materials. What other shops do you recommend for petites?
