Petite Fashion Challange # 1: "Do a Petite Don't"

Jean at Extra Petite is hosting the first petite fashion challange for our petite blogging community.  Basically, her thought was to create an outfit for a weekend brunch with your girlfriends. She depicted that the outfit should include one clothing item that is always labeled a petite "don't" by styling guru's and  portray it as a petite "do".

It was not hard for me to oblige Jean in this challange, my closet is full of clothes that would make Stacy and Clinton shudder in horror.  I adore wearing long tunics over jeans, successfully cutting the length of my legs down to two inches so that I look like a stump in shoes, I love wearing my comfy wide leg jeans with flats creating a wide squat oompa loompa, and just try to stop me from throwing on my floor length maxi skirt and running around town looking like a little girl playing dress up......Nope, no problem at all!

So here we go, I actually think this mid-calf "don't" works on me because my calves are so small and straight without a whole lot of shape......For this outfit I was thinking maybe an alfresco brunch with the girls down at that new little Mexican place on the square..........

In retrospect, I really should have added some gold bracelet bangels to complete the look.  It's so nice being able to look back at outfits, it really helps me notice things that I would have completly missed otherwise.  I am really looking forward to seeing all of your outfits!  Eeee!!  This is so much fun  ; )

  1. I love that skirt! You know, you don't look petite to me at all in pics, so obviously all the "don't" items you own are definitely "do's" on you!

This challenge was fun! I was excited and nervous for this challenge but I'm really glad I participated :)

  2. I am loving your skirt. It works for you but I know for sure it definitely is a don't for me. I don't think I own any skirt that length. I can't wait to see everyone's outfits later tonight!

  4. This is a tough one! I for one wouldn't be able to pull off a full skirt that hits me at that length, but I think you're one of those chic people that can make anything work, especially since you wear it with such style! :)

  5. I love your outfit and the skirt looks pretty proportional even though it's long. You pulled it off really well! =)

  6. You look like you should be sitting at a chic little cafe on a sunny day, drinking a fancy coffee.

    Great skirt! Love it!

  7. A bride was going to make me wear a bridesmaid dress w/tea-length (or mid-calf length) like this skirt. I was going to secretly hem it to the knee. Luckily the wedding didn't happen.

With this fun print, it's best to appreciate the skirt for what it is, instead of what length it comes in, and make it work!!

  8. You look amazing. I think those casual flats/sandals are a wise choice. The way they reveal your lower portion of your legs and feet balance things out.

  9. Your pics qand the first comment make me wonder- would the whole perspective change if we were standing next to a 'regular' person ? Sometimes its hard to see 'petiteness' in our frame for what it truly is unless its in relation to the rest of the world :D heehee just a thought

  13. Your intro was so funny to read! I agree with Abhitoabby...I'm really curious how we look standing next to each other. You don't look petite to me and it's hard to believe I'm just 1 inch shorter! You effortlessly pull off more "whimsical" fashion and I did some thinking lol ... I think part of it is your chic haircut. This skirt is very eye-catching...and you're right, some bangles would take it up even another notch : )

  14. i love the shirt! I think the shirt with the waist emphasis helps pull the look together, and I agree with everyone, you do not look 5'1". lol

  15. I really love the strappy heels that you have on with the outfit, makes the bottom half look really light! I think the trick is to wear something light on top and then you have an allowance to wear a fuller skirt/bottom. I really like the details on your skirt!

  16. Love the outfit! I think a slightly higher heel would make it look even better...:)

This is one reason why I don't believe in certain petite "Don'ts"...it depends on the person.

  17. I like it on you! I think on me, if the stripes were vertical without the banding at the bottom, I could pull it off too! Love those vertical lines in clothes.......Bonnie

  18. You look incredible and this is definitely not a don't in my book. That skirt is beautiful and it's paired perfectly with just a classic, wrap whie blouse. I am in love with your Target purse, too.
